Hoisting RTU's a Ton at a Time!

Our General Contracting team recently completed a large RTU (rooftop unit) replacement project for an office building in Vernon Hills — and it was anything but a light lift. With help from a not-so-little helper affectionately dubbed “Baby Crane,” we executed two separate picks to hoist a 50-ton RTU with a overall footprint of 8’ x 33’ and a 75-ton RTU with an overall footprint of 10’ x 33’ — totaling 125 tons of cooling power — over 200 feet from the roof’s edge and expertly set into place. Despite the nickname, there’s nothing BABY about this crane or this job. These new units now deliver efficient heating and cooling to a busy office building — and the project didn’t stop there. We also integrated a full building automation control system to maximize performance, comfort, and long-term efficiency.
